How to make vanilla infused coconut oil

  • 1 cup extra virgin coconut oil
  • 4 vanilla beans

Step One: Cut vanilla beans down the center
Note: At this point, you can remove vanilla seeds if desired. I leave them in and just avoid scooping them out later, the coconut with vanilla seeds that remains can be used in a body scrub.

Step Two: Place coconut oil and vanilla beans in doubler boiler.

Step Three: Gently heat.  I leave the stove on low for about 3-4 days while I am at home, either in the morning and/or at night. At night, before going to bed,  turn stove off. Resume the next day with gently heating the mixture.

Step Four: After 3-4 four days, strain through wire mesh strainer while warm.  Some of the seeds will get through but they will settle to the bottom.

Step Five: Allow 24 hours for the coconut to return back to a solid state. If it is very hot and humid, even with air conditioning, the coconut may stay more fluid. Put in fridge to harden, if desired.

Use this beautiful vanilla infused coconut oil in lip balms, body butters, creams and lotions!
